Parking sensors and reversing cameras both help with low-speed manoeuvring, but they do the job in different ways. Sensors measure proximity. They warn you as you approach an object, usually through an audible tone and, on some systems, a visual distance display. A camera shows you what is behind the vehicle, often with guidelines to help judge position.

That sounds simple enough, but in practice the difference is about how the driver processes information. Sensors tell you that something is there and roughly how close it is. A camera shows you what it is, where it sits and whether you have space to continue. One is warning-led. The other is visibility-led.

For larger vehicles, combining both is usually the strongest setup. Sensors handle the distance warning. The camera shows the exact obstacle and the surrounding area. What each system can miss

Sensors can struggle with very slim objects, awkward angles and certain low-profile obstacles depending on sensor position and vehicle design. A camera can miss danger outside its field of view, and wide-angle lenses can distort distance if the driver is not used to them.
