In many cases, yes. On newer vehicles, that can leave several loose ends. Parking sensors may stay active. Stability systems may not change mode. You can have dedicated wiring with either socket format, and you can have universal wiring with either in some applications. The bigger question is what the vehicle needs, not just what the trailer uses.
If you tow a caravan, horsebox or anything needing charging feeds, fridge supply or reverse circuits, the electrical side becomes more critical. Proper power management, relay control and battery protection matter. Dedicated systems are normally the better route here, especially on newer vehicles and commercial vans.

Before any towbar wiring is fitted, the installer should confirm the vehicle’s electrical system, socket requirement, towing use and whether coding is needed. It is also worth checking if you need permanent live feeds, fridge feeds or split charging for caravans, plant trailers or work equipment.
On vans and commercial vehicles, think about the wider setup too. If you are already running beacons, work lights, reverse cameras or auxiliary power systems, the towbar electrics should be planned around the rest of the vehicle.
